Aeschylus's Persae is the oldest surviving complete work of ancient Greek drama and simultaneously the first theatrical recording of historical events. As an eyewitness to the Battle of Salamis, Aeschylus created a 'scenic reportage' of war merely eight years after the catastrophe. Directed by Christos Theodoridi, this production features Maria Navpliotou, Dimitris Katalipos, Anastasis Roilos, and Stavros Svingos, supported by an 18-member chorus. Theodoridi approaches the work as a profound anti-war outcry, continuing his artistic exploration of politically charged contemporary issues. The drama centers on twenty-two figures awaiting news of disaster; when the messenger returns from the front, absolute loss reshapes their world. Collective mourning ensues for the dead and the past that vanished with them.
