Lysistrata Tour 2026

The State Theatre of Northern Greece presents a contemporary theatrical reading of Aristophanes' Lysistrata, translated by Konstantinos Boura and directed by Asterios Peltekis. This production is part of a tour including performances at the Athens Epidaurus Festival. Elisabeth Konstantinidou leads an ensemble cast exploring the ancient comedy as fundamentally political and anthropological rather than merely entertainmental. The director employs comedy as a mechanism of revelation, examining how exhausted societies seek new forms of organization through collective action and bodily desire as political gestures. The production emphasizes how exiting systemic entropy requires conscious refusal to participate in destructive cycles. Women's agency stands at the work's center, proposing dialogue and coexistence over confrontation.
