Ειρήνη

Aristophanes' comedy Peace travels across Greece following an acclaimed Epidaurus premiere that drew enthusiastic audiences. Directed by Nikos Karathanou with original text and songs by Phoivos Deliovorias, this staging presents the ancient work as a response to war's madness through music, collective action and popular festivity. Written during the Peloponnesian War, the play examines how conflict perpetuates despite its human cost. Karathanou treats it as a festival of lost rural life and a comic, irrepressible argument for ordinary people's right to peace, even against power's logic. The staging features music and collective energy as counterforces to military violence. The production connects ancient political urgency to contemporary crisis, illuminating cycles where wars extend to benefit few while damaging many.
