Aristophanes' ancient comedy, directed by Nikos Karathanou with adaptation and original text by Phoivos Delivoria, premiered at Epidaurus Theatre with 15,700 spectators over July 24-25. Karathanou, Delivoria, and musician Angelos Triantafyllou have created a vibrant, comic, and politically charged production that responds to the chaos of war through music, collective spirit, and folk celebration. Originally staged in 421 BC, the play critiques prolonged conflict and its devastating impact on daily life and happiness. This new interpretation presents Peace as a festival of a lost rural world, a carnival of ordinary people using war's ashes as material for survival and resistance. The production now tours selected Greek cities.
