Ανεξάρτητα Κράτη - Καλοκαιρινή περιοδεία

The play "Independent States," co-written by Giorgos Palumpis and Antonis Tsiotsiopulos, draws inspiration from doctor Vassilis Tsironis' true story during Greece's first post-dictatorship period. The production captured theatre audiences through its rapid pace, raw realism, and compelling performances. It received critical acclaim and established itself as a significant work of contemporary Greek dramaturgy. The play offers sharp political critique, examining connections between media and state power while questioning contemporary society. The narrative follows journalist Maria Theofilu's investigation into Tsironis' death after a four-month police standoff, exploring whether it was suicide or state-sanctioned homicide. Her search for truth unfolds within newspaper offices against a backdrop of state repression. The work examines themes of truth-seeking and women's agency within male-dominated institutional structures.
