Bio

Tyketto are an American melodic hard rock band formed in the New York–New Jersey area during the late 1980s. Founded by vocalist Danny Vaughn following his time with Waysted, the original lineup also featured guitarist Brooke St. James, bassist Jimi Kennedy and drummer Michael Clayton. Their music combined the scale and melodic accessibility of arena rock with a more grounded lyrical emphasis on resilience, relationships and ordinary lives. The band secured a recording contract with Geffen Records and released its debut album, Don’t Come Easy, in 1991. Led by the anthem Forever Young, alongside songs including Wings, Seasons and Standing Alone, the album became an enduring favourite within melodic hard rock. Its release, however, coincided almost exactly with the commercial rise of grunge, leaving Tyketto caught between strong critical and fan support and an industry rapidly abandoning the style they represented. Strength in Numbers followed in 1994 through Music for Nations. Heavier and more mature than its predecessor, the album expanded the band’s sound while preserving the vocal harmonies and melodic guitar writing at its centre. Vaughn subsequently departed, and future Journey vocalist Steve Augeri fronted Tyketto on Shine in 1995 before the group entered a lengthy period of inactivity. The original lineup reunited for selected performances in 2004 and returned again during the latter part of the decade. Tyketto resumed recording with Dig in Deep in 2012, followed by Reach in 2016. These albums established the band as an active creative project rather than merely a reunion act, introducing a refreshed lineup while retaining Vaughn’s voice and the emotionally direct songwriting associated with their earliest work. Their concert catalogue includes Live from Milan, We’ve Got Tomorrow, We’ve Got Tonight and Strength in Numbers Live, documenting both the enduring popularity of Don’t Come Easy and the strength of their later material onstage. Tyketto released their sixth studio album, Closer to the Sun, through Silver Lining Music in March 2026. Recorded by the current lineup of Danny Vaughn, guitarist Harry Scott Elliott, keyboardist Ged Rylands, bassist Chris Childs and drummer Johnny Dee, the album combines uplifting melodic rock with songs about love, loss, ageing and personal survival. More than three decades after arriving during one of the least forgiving periods imaginable for a new melodic hard rock band, Tyketto have developed from an overlooked major-label prospect into one of the genre’s most respected enduring acts. Forever Young remains their defining anthem, but their continued recording and touring history has ensured that the band’s identity extends considerably beyond a single early success.
