Sina Bathaie is an Iranian–Canadian multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer known for combining Persian musical traditions with contemporary electronic production. Born in Iran and based in Toronto, he began learning the santur at the age of seven under the guidance of his father, master musician Javad Bathaie.
He subsequently studied Persian classical repertoire, including the radif tradition, while expanding his instrumental practice through the oud and tonbak. These foundations remain central to music that connects improvised Eastern melodies with atmospheric electronics, downtempo rhythms and modern dance production.
Bathaie released his debut album, Sound of Silence, in 2012. Ray of Hope followed in 2017, broadening his sound through santur, cello, guitar, percussion and other acoustic instrumentation while retaining a strong contemporary and cinematic character.
His later catalogue marked a gradual transition towards electronic music through releases including One Last Time, High Bridge, Breath of Life, Tehran, Rise and Zhovan. Breath of Life became his major international breakthrough, while the live recording Seven Ponds reached another wide audience in 2024.
Rather than using traditional instruments merely as decorative samples, Bathaie places the santur, oud and other acoustic sounds at the centre of his compositions and live improvisations. His performances move between meditative instrumental passages and rhythmically driven electronica, often reshaping recorded material in real time.
Recent releases including Forever Sunset, Gratitude, We Are All One, Beautiful Day and Dawn of Hope have continued that balance between Persian musical language, melodic electronica and global dance music. In 2026, he expanded his international touring activity through the White Lotus World Tour.
