Rødhåd is a German DJ, producer and label founder whose deep, hypnotic and melancholic sound has made him one of the most established figures in contemporary Berlin techno. His approach combines powerful, patiently developed rhythms with dub-influenced space, atmospheric tension and an unusually emotional sense of progression.
After emerging through Berlin’s independent and off-grid party scene, he became resident at Zementgarten in 2006. In 2009, he launched Dystopian, initially as a club-night series and subsequently as a record label. Through its dark, uncompromising aesthetic and releases by artists including Recondite, Alex.Do and Distant Echoes, Dystopian became an influential part of Berlin’s techno landscape.
Rødhåd released his debut studio album, Anxious, in 2017. The record moved beyond functional club music into ambient interludes and detailed electronic sound design, demonstrating the wider range behind his powerful DJ sets. Mood, released in 2020, explored an entirely ambient and experimental direction using archival studio material.
His later work has increasingly centred on WSNWG, a Berlin studio and label created for direct collaboration with other electronic musicians. Its catalogue includes the Out of Place Artefacts albums with Vril, In Vere with JakoJako, and collaborative releases with artists including Rene Wise, Ignez, UFO95, Kameliia, Inox Traxx and Polygonia.
Whether working through extended DJ sets, improvised group performances or carefully constructed studio releases, Rødhåd favours gradual tension, sonic depth and sustained atmosphere over obvious spectacle. This consistency has made him a defining representative of Berlin’s deeper and more hypnotic techno tradition.
