French Fry is a Greek indie artist, songwriter and producer whose music combines alternative rock, post-punk, indie pop and lo-fi electronic production. Based in Greece, he began writing and producing his own material in 2022 after studying jazz performance.
His early work developed around a compact live setup involving guitar, drum machines, ambient effects and live looping. Rather than relying on a conventional full-band arrangement, French Fry built layered performances in real time, combining programmed rhythms with atmospheric guitar textures and direct English-language songwriting.
His music draws influence from artists including The Smiths, Her’s, Fontaines D.C., Idles and Getdown Services. These references appear in his mixture of jangling and distorted guitars, repetitive post-punk rhythms, conversational vocals and lyrics about work, uncertainty, relationships and the frustrations of early adult life.
French Fry released his first single, “An Escape,” in 2022, followed by “Find a Way” in 2023 and the singles “Saxo.” and “Strange Mirror” in 2024. These releases introduced a sound moving between melodic indie rock, bedroom pop, post-punk and jazz-informed guitar playing.
Alongside his recorded work, he developed his live presence through local clubs, street performances and independent festivals. He has performed both as a solo act using loops and as a duo with multi-instrumentalist Aki Rei. His appearances have included the Station Street Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, as well as performances within the emerging Athens independent scene.
In 2026, French Fry released his debut album, Quit Your Job!, through Fine! Records. The album examines the pressures of employment, financial insecurity, social expectations and the everyday confusion of life in one’s twenties. Its deliberately playful title masks a record shaped by frustration, fatigue and the desire to escape repetitive routines.
Tracks such as “Apple Pie,” “Black Whole,” “Electric Misery,” “People Pleaser” and the title track expand his earlier sound through heavier guitars, drum-machine rhythms, jam-like repetition and flashes of early-2000s indie rock. The album maintains the handmade character of his first releases while presenting a more complete and confident artistic identity.
French Fry’s work is defined by the contrast between casual humour and underlying anxiety. Through compact arrangements, live looping and emotionally direct songwriting, he represents a younger strand of the Greek indie scene that draws freely from post-punk, alternative rock and DIY production without losing its accessible melodic character.
