Masood Boomgaard has spent a decade doing stand-up in New York, London and Dubai. His best-known creation is Self-Help Singh, a self-styled de-motivational speaker who parodies the self-help and motivational-seminar industry. The character, Boomgaard says, arrived as a vision after he slipped and hit his head sprinting to the bathroom, casualty of a bad lamb vindaloo. Singh's deadpan, contrarian advice has since pulled in millions of views online.
