Η Καρυάτιδα! is an acerbic comedy by Giorgos Kapoutidis that captivated audiences with its biting humor and pointed critique of Greek reality. After two years of successful runs at REX and KAPPA Theatre, the production embarks on a summer tour across Greece. The play explores what happens when Greece's lost sixth Caryatid returns home, triggering a collision between national emotion and political chaos. Directed by Katerina Mavrogiorgi with sharp timing and comedic precision, it portrays a nation capable of profound sentiment and simultaneous self-sabotage. Aeschylus' landmark tragedy Persae receives a new production directed by Christos Theodoridis, featuring Maria Nafplioti, Dimitris Katalipos, Anastasis Roylos, and Stavros Svigkos alongside a dynamic 18-member chorus. The play stands as the oldest surviving complete work of ancient Greek drama and the first theatrical record of historical events. Aeschylus, an eyewitness to the Battle of Salamis, crafted a 'scenic reportage' of war merely eight years after the catastrophe. Theodoridis approaches the work as a profound anti-war statement, continuing his artistic engagement with politically charged contemporary themes. The State Theatre of Northern Greece presents a contemporary scenic reading of Aristophanes' Lysistrata, translated by Konstantinos Boura and directed by Asterios Peltekis. Saturday concluded with a standing ovation. This contemporary reading transforms the classical work into a celebration of music, collective action, and popular culture as resistance to the logic of war. The touring production now visits selected cities, bringing Aristophanes' timeless exploration of peace and human dignity to audiences beyond the ancient amphitheater.
