Rationalistas, are a Greek hip-hop group rooted in Egaleo and the western suburbs of Athens. The project traces its beginnings to 1999, when MC SXO and producer Loop began working together. Following the temporary participation of Zografos and the group’s later connection with 32 Streets members TNT and Bayman, Rationalistas gradually developed into their established contemporary formation of SXO, TNT, Bayman and DJ Gzas.
Their lyrics emerged from everyday life in Athens and the need to speak about social injustice, political corruption, inequality and the pressures of the modern urban environment. Over time, their work developed a clearly antifascist, antisexist and anticapitalist position while remaining grounded in personal experience rather than fixed party language or political slogans.
Rationalistas introduced their recorded work with Ap’ ton Dromo, followed by Mia Nychta Meta tin Teleftaia Mera, an album that included a collaboration with Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated Peoples. Their later catalogue includes Vanguard, released in 2019, and Piso ta Panta in 2021, which consolidated the current lineup’s combination of direct social commentary, personal reflection and forceful underground hip-hop production.
Their fifth album, Prosanamma, arrived in 2025. Built around the image of kindling and transformation, the record explores the process of abandoning older versions of oneself, sacrificing familiarity and confronting a changing world. The album includes twelve tracks and features vocalist Idra Kayne on Angels in Heaven.
Across more than two decades of activity, Rationalistas have remained independent and closely connected to the Greek underground. Their combination of politically conscious writing, uncompromising performances and reflections on everyday personal experience has made them one of the most established groups in contemporary Greek hip-hop.
