Βιογραφικό

Overkill are an American thrash metal band formed in New Jersey in 1980. Emerging from the punk and heavy-metal underground of the New York and New Jersey area, they became one of the defining bands of East Coast thrash, developing an immediately recognizable sound built around D.D. Verni’s forceful bass lines, Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth’s cutting vocals, rapid riffing and a direct, street-level energy. Following the Power in Black demo and their self-titled EP, Overkill released their debut album, Feel the Fire, in 1985. A prolific run followed with Taking Over, Under the Influence, The Years of Decay and Horrorscope, records that established the band internationally and produced enduring songs including In Union We Stand, Hello from the Gutter, Elimination and Coma. Overkill continued releasing albums throughout the 1990s and 2000s, incorporating heavier grooves and broader traditional-metal influences without abandoning their thrash foundation. Later releases including Ironbound, The Electric Age, White Devil Armory, The Grinding Wheel and The Wings of War introduced the band to successive generations of listeners. Their twentieth studio album, Scorched, arrived through Nuclear Blast in 2023, combining their established aggression with melodic, blues-influenced and classic heavy-metal elements. More than four decades after their formation, Overkill remain one of thrash metal’s most prolific and enduring institutions, led by longtime members Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth and D.D. Verni.
