MIKRO are a Greek electronic band formed in Thessaloniki in 1997 by Nikos Bitzenis, also known as Nikonn, and Yiannis Lefkaditis. The project began from their shared interest in creating an electronic group that combined synthesizers, programmed rhythms and dance production with the energy and structure of a live pop-rock band.
Their early sound was influenced by synthpop, electropop, new wave and European electronic music, while also incorporating guitars, male and female vocals and lyrics written in both Greek and English. The band’s debut releases established a futuristic identity built around melodic synthesizers, club-oriented beats and an optimistic fascination with technology, communication and modern urban life.
MIKRO released their debut album, Το Τέλος του Κόσμου, in 1999. Songs such as “Σταγόνες,” “Άσπρη Σοκολάτα” and “Αυτή η Πόλη” helped introduce their sound to Greek audiences at a time when electronic pop remained relatively uncommon within the country’s mainstream music scene.
The group expanded its audience through the soundtrack of the Greek film E-mail and the album Tronik*Plasma, developing a more polished combination of electronica, pop songwriting and alternative rock. Their concerts became an important part of their identity, translating programmed electronic material into energetic performances involving live drums, guitars, synthesizers, loops and multiple vocalists.
Albums including 180 Μοίρες, Restart, Download and Upload continued their movement between synthpop, dance music, indie electronic and pop-rock. Their catalogue frequently alternates between accessible melodic songs and more experimental electronic tracks, while remixes and collaborations have connected them with artists from both the Greek and international music scenes.
Alongside their studio albums, MIKRO have written music for films, television and advertising and have produced a large number of remixes for other performers. Nikonn has also released solo electronic material and worked as a producer, while the other members have contributed experience from rock, pop and electronic performance.
After periods of reduced activity and changes in their lineup, MIKRO returned with new releases and live performances, maintaining the combination of electronic production and full-band energy that defined their earlier work. The album ΣΟΥΠΕΡΗΡΩΕΣ, released in 2024, introduced a new chapter while retaining their melodic synth-driven character, followed by further material including “Μέσα στα μάτια” in 2025.
Across more than two decades, MIKRO have become one of Greece’s most recognisable electronic bands. Their work connects synthpop, electropop, dance, indie rock and alternative electronic music through direct songwriting, bilingual vocals and a consistently energetic live presence.
