Insom

Insom is the principal Drum & Bass project of Gabriel Mentis, a producer, DJ and organiser born in Paris in 1987 and raised in Athens. His musical education began with classical violin before he moved through several roles in rock bands, experiences that gave him a broader grounding in arrangement and performance before he committed himself to electronic production. Mentis began making music with Cubase around the age of fourteen. The Insom name originated during his involvement with graffiti, while Drum & Bass gradually became his main field of expression. His first publicly distributed project was the independently released Fire EP in 2009. The track “Times of Terror,” issued by Trust in Music in March 2011, became his first official label release, followed later that year by the Mineral EP through Melting Pot. Over the following years, Insom built one of the more extensive catalogues associated with the Greek Drum & Bass underground. His productions and remixes appeared through labels including Overclockin Records, Abducted LTD, Mindtech, Ammunition Recordings, Sinuous, Disturbed, Trust in Music, Close 2 Death and several other specialist imprints. Tracks such as “Distant Reality,” “Dark Years,” “Roll the Acid,” “Minimal Cut” and “Run in Space,” alongside remixes for Kill Emil, Rregula & Dementia, Digital Monk and Neurodriver, document a sound ranging from forceful neurofunk and techstep to deeper, more atmospheric material. His work has received DJ support from artists including Jade, Billain, Optiv, Neonlight and Zombie Cats. As a performer, he has appeared outside Greece in countries including Israel, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. Insom’s importance to the Greek scene also extends beyond his own discography. He was one of the founding figures of Urban Danja in Chania in 2006 and later became a resident and organiser behind Ath Dnb Unity. Under the Wosui alias he explores deeper dubstep, while Dub Riots, his collaborative project, moves through dub and steppas. He has additionally worked on cross-disciplinary projects such as Arkadian Soundscapes, where electronic sound, landscape, lighting and visual installation were combined in a live setting. Recent activity has included continued Urban Danja and Ath Dnb Unity events, the Drum&Bass Journey broadcast series, new independent material and Urban Danja’s twentieth-anniversary programme in 2026. Insom’s career is therefore not simply a sequence of DJ appearances: it represents two decades of production, event organisation, radio work and persistent infrastructure-building for Drum & Bass in Greece.
